-
June 15, 2025 / Los Angeles County, Palos Verdes
Navigating the Palos Verdes Peninsula just got easier for seniors and individuals with disabilities, thanks to the PV Transit Dial-A-Ride/Dial-A-Lift program. This convenient transportation service offers a reliable way to travel within the Peninsula and to surrounding medical facilities.
What is Dial-A-Ride/Dial-A-Lift?
The Dial-A-Ride/Dial-A-Lift program, operated by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Transit Authority (PVPTA), provides transportation using taxi cabs and ramp vans for eligible residents. The PVPTA is an agency funded by the cities of Rancho Palos Verdes, Palos Verdes Estates, Rolling Hills Estates, and Los Angeles County.
Who Can Use the Service?
Palos Verdes Peninsula residents who are seniors (62+) or disabled are eligible to become members and use the service. Individuals under 62 must complete a Physician’s Verification Form, available from the PVPTA office.
How to Register and Purchase Rides:
Before using the service, residents must register for membership and purchase rides. This can be done by mail or in person at the PV Transit office: 38 Crest Rd. West, Rolling Hills, CA 90274
- The registration fee is $10.
- Rides are $6.00 each and must be purchased at the time of registration (minimum of four rides). Payment can be made by check or Visa/MasterCard (in-person only).
- A TaxiCard will be issued, and purchased trips will be electronically loaded onto the card. Rides never expire.
- A maximum of 24 rides can be purchased per month. Additional rides for medical purposes may be available; contact the PVPTA for assistance.
Fares:
- Within the Palos Verdes Peninsula: One ride fare is required for a one-way trip, and two ride fares are required for a round trip.
- Outside the Palos Verdes Peninsula (Medical Purposes Only): Two ride fares are required for a one-way trip, and four ride fares are required for a round trip.
Service Area:
Dial-A-Ride/Dial-A-Lift services are available within the Palos Verdes Peninsula for any trip purpose to any location with a Palos Verdes address. Trips outside the Peninsula are for medical purposes only and include transportation to hospitals, medical buildings, and doctor’s offices in Torrance, Harbor City, San Pedro, and Redondo Beach (primarily South Bay Medical Center on Prospect Avenue).
Hours of Service:
Dial-A-Ride/Dial-A-Lift operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
How to Book a Ride:
After receiving membership confirmation and materials, members can call for service. The taxi company phone number (1-800-400-2924) is located on the back of the TaxiCard. Identify yourself as a Palos Verdes Dial-A-Ride or Dial-A-Lift member and request service.
Return rides can be requested at the same time or by calling the 800 number later. Passengers may experience a 15-20 minute wait for a ride. Caretakers and/or escorts ride for free.
Important Reminders:
- Trips outside the Palos Verdes Peninsula must originate and return to a point within the Peninsula (usually the member’s home). Travel between multiple off-Peninsula locations is not permitted without returning to the original pick-up point. Additional off-Peninsula trips are the member’s responsibility to pay for directly (the driver cannot accept the TaxiCard for these extra trips).
- Rides are prepaid. Never pay the taxi driver cash for rides (except for tips).
- The driver will swipe the TaxiCard once per trip. Due to terrain or transmission issues, the transaction may be recorded and processed later.
This program provides a valuable service to the Palos Verdes community. For more information, contact the PVPTA office at (310) 544-7108.
