Redondo Beach Seniors: Your Guide to Getting Around with the WAVE Dial-A-Ride

Getting around Redondo Beach and beyond is easier than ever for seniors and individuals with disabilities, thanks to the WAVE Dial-A-Ride service. This convenient and affordable transportation option provides curb-to-curb service within Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach, as well as to designated locations in nearby communities.

What is the WAVE?

The WAVE is a shared-ride, Dial-A-Ride service operated through a partnership between Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach. It’s designed to provide accessible transportation for seniors (62+) and disabled individuals. All WAVE vehicles are powered by clean-burning compressed natural gas (CNG) and are equipped with wheelchair ramps.

Who is Eligible?

To be eligible for the WAVE, you must be a resident of Redondo Beach or Hermosa Beach and meet one of the following criteria:

  • Senior Citizen: Age 62 or older.
  • Disabled Rider: Individuals of any age with an impairment or disability. Proof of disability is required, such as a Medicare Card, CA Department of Motor Vehicles Disabled ID card, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) disabled reduced fare card, or a physician’s letter verifying permanent or temporary disability.

How to Register:

  1. Download an application: Visit the City of Redondo Beach website and download the Dial-A-Ride WAVE ID card application.
  2. Request an application by email: Email bct@redondo.org to request an application.
  3. Request an application by phone: Call (310) 937-6660 to have an application mailed to you.

Once completed, you can submit your application:

  1. By email: Send it to bct@redondo.org.
  2. By mail: Send it to City of Redondo Beach, c/o Transit Division, 415 Diamond Street, Door 2, Redondo Beach, CA 90277.

The $1 application fee is currently suspended.

Fares (One-Way Within Hermosa Beach or Redondo Beach):

  • Seniors (62+) and Disabled: $1.00 each
  • Senior or Disabled Groups (3 or more passengers): $0.75 each

Hours of Operation:

  • Monday – Friday: 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Saturday & Sunday: 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day): 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • No service on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.

How to Schedule a Ride:

Dispatch operates 7 days a week, 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Be ready to provide:

  • Pick-up address
  • Destination address
  • Number of passengers
  • Any required assistance

Trip Options:

  1. Now: Pick-up within 30 minutes (depending on demand).
  2. Same Day: Pick-up within two hours (depending on demand).
  3. Reservation: Book up to 7 days in advance.
  4. Subscription: Schedule regular pick-ups (daily or weekly).
  5. Group: Reduced fare for 3 or more passengers traveling together. Request group service for 5 or more at least 24 hours in advance.

Service Area:

All rides must begin or end in Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, or at one of the designated satellite locations in Manhattan Beach and Torrance.

Rules for Riding the WAVE:

  1. Be curbside and ready to board when the vehicle arrives (drivers can only wait 3 minutes).
  2. Have exact fare ready.
  3. Tipping is prohibited.
  4. Travel times may be longer due to shared rides.
  5. Maximum 4 shopping bags per person.
  6. Cancellations must be made at least 2 hours prior to the scheduled pick-up time.
  7. Three no-shows within 90 days may result in suspension of service.
