About Joshua White

Joshua White is an internationally acclaimed pianist and composer whose work spans Western classical traditions and contemporary jazz improvisation. Hailed by Herbie Hancock as a “musical prodigy,” White is celebrated for his rhythmic intensity, harmonic depth, and fearless improvisation.

White began piano studies at age seven in Southern California, building a foundation in classical repertoire, gospel, and Black American musical traditions. A finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition, he has performed across North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. His solo release, Flora and Fauna: 9 Preludes for Solo Piano (Orenda Records, 2025), and collaborations with leading contemporary musicians demonstrate his range and artistry.

Beyond performance, White is a dedicated educator, mentoring ensembles at California State University, Northridge, serving as faculty at the Stanford Jazz Workshop, and teaching at the Young Lions Jazz Conservatory.

Critics highlight his “demonstrative, percussive” style, blending physical intensity with harmonic sophistication and expansive improvisation. Fellow musicians praise his ability to honor tradition while creating something unique in the moment.
